On Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012, the California Valley Miwok Tribe was able to recycle potentially hazardous e-waste that could have otherwise harmed the environment. Onsite Electronics Recycling, based in Stockton, formed in 2004 to provide responsible management of discarded electronics. Onsite Electronics Recycling has received numerous awards, including a “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” and the “2010 P3 Stewardship Award” from the Stockton, CA Chamber of Commerce for good environmental policies and practices, as well as certificates from the California Integrated Waste Management Board’s Waste Reductions Awards Program for three years in a row (2008, 2009 and 2010).

Onsite serves both business and residential customers, offering convenient drop off locations and collection events, as well as providing free scheduled pick-up of materials to be recycled. All electronic components are dismantled and whole units are not re-sold or re-used. Onsite also offers a certification of destruction of the materials at no extra cost. Previously unaware of the service Onsite Electronics Recycling offers, the Tribe thought its only option was to discard the e-waste at the county landfill, which not only would have proved costly, but also posed a security risk where computer hard drives and similar items were concerned. Because there was no guarantee that the sensitive data would have been properly destroyed, the Tribe held onto old, outdated equipment (circa late 1990s), which in turn became expensive to store.

The California Valley Miwok Tribe is elated to have been able to procure this service, not only for the peace of mind of disposing of these items in an environmentally-sound manner, but also to help sustain and stimulate the local economy and livelihoods of our fellow San Joaquin County residents. We would like to thank Onsite Electronics Recycling Technician Chris Gibson and Clifton Moorman III, Technician II/Driver, for their prompt arrival and courteous, friendly and professional demeanor. Thanks also to Adriana Gomez, Administrative Assistant at Onsite Electronics Recycling.
