On March 9th, 2017, representatives of the California Valley Miwok Tribe attended a cultural event held at the Community Room in Lodi, CA. It was the culmination of previous planning between the Docent Coordinator for the Lodi Lake Nature Area, Ms. Julie Giometta-Wahl, whom extended the invite and representatives of the California Valley Miwok Tribe.

The purpose of the event was to bring in representatives of the culture of the first peoples of the area and interact with representatives of local organizations and interested members of the general public. Much culture was shared and traditions were displayed through histories, personal life accounts, customs, traditions, beliefs and spirituality. Many questions and topics were broached throughout the event and answered by tribal representatives.

It was a worthwhile event and the Tribe would like to thank Ms. Julie Giometta-Wahl and the Lodi Lake Nature Area Docents for the opportunity in sharing the Tribe’s culture. We would also like to thank (in attendance) the San Joaquin County Historical Society, members of the Lodi Unified School District and locals whom attended and truly made it a memorable evening.
