On Tuesday, March 10, 2015, the California Valley Miwok Tribe (CVMT) held its monthly USDA Food Distribution. CVMT staffer Tiger Paulk assisted Tule River staffers, Mr. Ron Buckman and Jesus Salas unload the USDA commodity foods from the semi truck.
This month, along with food allotments, recipients received a recipe book titled “A Harvest of Recipes with USDA Foods”. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), Food Distribution Division provided this recipe book developed for Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation (FDPIR) participants and staff.
The recipes are grouped as Breakfast, Breads, Soups, Side Dishes, and Main Dishes. Nutritional facts information are provided below each recipe. These recipes have been tested to make sure they will produce the stated number servings. They also meet the latest recommendations from the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. USDA foods used in each recipe appear in bold type print. You can find additional resources for USDA Foods on this page: https://www.usda.gov/topics/food-and-nutrition/food-distribution.
