The USDA Food Distribution was held by the California Valley Miwok Tribe on Monday the 15th of November 2021.
It was a very overcast day with extreme fog earlier in the morning which again rolled back in the evening later that night. During midday however, the temperatures remained moderate with no winds to speak of.
Again, it was a good event working with good friends from the Tule River Tribe Food Distribution Department.
The Tribe had actually heard earlier this month some were finally getting the promised stimulus checks, but with so many still suffering from the extreme fire season and now in some areas threat of avalanches, mudslides and flooding, the state and governor need to step it up a notch.
This month saw a nice array of goods as always, but also included frozen ham, roast, bison and wild caught Red Lake Walleye from one of our sister tribes, the Red Lake Nation of Minnesota.
The tribe is hopeful that the leadership in Washington D.C. will recognize the error of their ways and not impact programs such as this due to the current attempted disenfranchising of the federally recognized native peoples of our tribe. The displacement of the recognized leadership of our tribe through the continued illegal attempts by the BIA to reorganize against the will of the tribe’s members will mean the end of programs such as this that are sorely needed by tribal citizens and Native American’s within our service area that are less fortunate.
