The California Valley Miwok Tribe (CVMT) is proud to acknowledge the successful accomplishment of Tribal Member Mrs. Daveen Williams, for her continued organization of the annual “Stuff the Bus for Kids’ Sake” event held in Manteca, San Joaquin County, California.

Christmas Gifts were provided to 700+ needy children, and on December 20th, 2014, three hundred and thirty-one (331) people were invited to a Christmas party at the Manteca Senior Center. The seniors were the ones who prepared the Christmas dinner. Daveen had several duties which included collecting food, coats and toys, preparing food baskets, wrapping toys, organizing family gift bags, and delivering gifts to families in the Lathrop-French Camp and Weston Ranch communities.

Daveen personally invited families to the Christmas dinner. She also had the duty of overseeing photos taken with Santa Claus, recruiting and assigning volunteers, shopping for toys and supplies for the community dinner and helping to serve it to attendees. She also volunteered to play the part of Mrs. Claus for the event. Daveen was very proud that her children and grandsons happily and actively participated in volunteering to help at every “Stuff the Bus for Kids’ Sake” event. Daveen also expressed that she is especially grateful for the partnership with the Manteca Senior Center.

Tribal Member Daveen Williams has been a school bus driver for the Manteca Unified School District for almost 15 years. Daveen organized the ‘Stuff the Bus for Kids’ Sake’ back in 2008. Since then, she has organized the Food, Coat & Toy Drive event.

This year, she partnered with the City of Manteca, specifically Brandy Clark, Supervisor of the Senior Center Division. The “Stuff the Bus for Kids’ Sake” event held several collection days at Wal-Mart in Manteca and at the Eagles Nest Harley Davidson in Lathrop. So with the help from all of the partners, volunteers and several organizations, she was able to get a lot of donations to make this year the most successful so far. The “Stuff the Bus for Kids’ Sake” event has proven to be a much needed and very successful event, but this year has exceeded all expectations.

The California Valley Miwok Tribe wishes to acknowledge all of those whom have given from their hearts to make this year’s “Stuff the Bus for Kids’ Sake” a great success. We’d like to give special thanks to the Manteca Unified School District Transportation Department, Manteca Senior Center, Manteca Senior Advisory Committee, Manteca Parks & Recreation, Manteca Youth Advisory Commission, Manteca Youth Focus, East Union High, Kiwins, Girl Scouts Troops 2687 and 726, Silver Barons, Brinford Custom Cycles and Eagles Nest Harley Davidson, and to the City of Manteca, specifically Brandy Clark, Supervisor of the Senior Center Division.

Also CVMT would like to expressively thank Mrs. Daveen Williams, her children, and her grandsons for their proactive and humanitarian endeavors in the local communities and for representing themselves and the California Valley Miwok Tribe in a positive manner in interacting with the local communities and addressing their needs.
