On July 20th Tribal Elder Mildred Burley picked up what was acquired through donations this month from the Morada community to assist in the nutritional needs of tribal families within the valley and throughout the Mother Lode.
Mildred is indispensable to the Tribe, in that she has decided to be the Tribe’s primary distributor in this program.
Among other duties that our elder performs for the Tribe is that of tribal artisan, language retention and education, and foremost known local elder on the people, places and histories of the Miwok in Calaveras and San Joaquin counties.
She is the only living Miwok whom was born and had lived at the Six Mile Rancheria when it existed and as such only she knows its true history.
