The California Valley Miwok Tribe – located at 10601 Escondido Pl., Stockton, CA (as listed in the federal register of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, BIA/DOI) a federally recognized Tribe eligible to receive and distribute services from the federal government – on Monday, October 11th, 2010 did just that by providing food assistance to needy families through the food program, initiated by the USDA and provided by the California Valley Miwok Tribe by way of deliveries through the Tule River Tribe.
Any tribe with federal recognition can acquire and administer this type of program, that the California Valley Miwok Tribe feels (as a federally recognized tribe) is its obligation. To provide to Native Americans that are currently in need in the local Native American Community is an enriching tribal experience. The California Valley Miwok Tribe currently being landless has a vast service area representing all historical territories not being represented by another Miwok tribe and as such invites anyone whom wishes to inquire about this service, even if one cannot participate regularly (due to distance), to please contact the Tribe and request an application form. We hope to see more participation in the future.
The Tribe would like to thank the USDA and the Tule River food program staff for the supplies and deliveries to the Tribal food program, and to the San Joaquin Native American Veterans Lodge for their continuing donations and participation within the program, and to Calaveras County Mountain Miwuk Vice Chairperson, Mark Fountain for helping with this months food drive.
