The California Valley Miwok Tribe – located at 10601 Escondido Pl., Stockton, CA (As listed in the Federal Register of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, BIA/DOI), a federally recognized tribe eligible to receive and distribute services from the federal government – on Monday, December 6th, 2010, participated in a meeting regarding “The California Tribal TANF Partnership.”
TANF is an indigenous program ran by Native Americans that addresses issues such as career development, education, supportive services and emergency assistance, among others. The California Valley Miwok Tribe is a member tribe of the TANF program initiated by the Robinson Rancheria. Chairperson Silvia Burley and Secretary/Treasurer Rashel Reznor braved torrential rains in a three hour drive to attend. This was a special meeting and only federally recognized member tribes were asked to attend.
The meeting was held on December 6th, between the hours of 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and although much was discussed, the main topic was the advancement of the program from its previous status of stage II to its new designation of Phase III. A lot of time and effort went into getting the program to where it is today and the Tribe is proud to be a member tribe in the Robinson Rancheria’s TANF program. As always when a meeting is sponsored by the Robinson tribe, they were gracious hosts and made the tribe welcome in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
