On Monday, December 16, 2013, the California Valley Miwok Tribe received a Season’s Greetings card from The White House, signed by President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Malia, Sasha, Sunny and Bo.
The front cover of the card has The Seal of the President of the United States of America. The seal is based upon the Great Seal of the USA. The Presidential seal pictures an American bald eagle holding a ribbon in its beak; the ribbon has the motto of the USA, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” meaning “Out of many, one.”
The first President who used a presidential seal was Rutherford B. Hayes; in 1880, Hayes used the seal for White House invitations. US President Harry Truman had the seal redesigned on Ocotober 26, 1945, adding the circle of stars and re-orienting the eagle towards the right (the side with the olive branch).
The inside of the greetings card has a pop out of the White House located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington DC, which features Sunny and Bo walking in front of the White House.
The California Valley Miwok Tribe would like to wish President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama & Family, and White House Associates & Staff a very Merry Holiday and Season’s Blessings!!
