The California Valley Miwok Tribe held its monthly USDA Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016. Everyone enjoyed the warm, clear weather as we move into the spring season.

Tule River USDA Food Distribution staff member Ronald Buckman lent his assistance to California Valley Miwok Tribe staff and volunteers by delivering the commodities to the tribal property and further helping to sort and transfer the allotments to CVMT staff. After taking steps to ensure that perishable food is properly packaged to endure temporary storage, each allotment was distributed to Food Distribution program participants as they arrived.

USDA FDPIR Intake Manager Mrs. Patricia Salas was also available to receive and process new applications.

Many recipients expressed their surprise at receiving packages of ground bison in this month’s distribution, which is seen as a generally healthier alternative to traditional ground beef and not readily affordable to some of our more disadvantaged food distribution program participants.

Anyone wishing to participate in our monthly food distribution may request to receive a USDA Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) application by mail, e-mail or fax, by contacting the California Valley Miwok Tribe by e-mail at office@cvmt.net or by phone at (209) 931-4567.

The California Valley Miwok Tribe thanks the Tule River Tribe,  USDA FDPIR Director Mr. Richard McDarment, USDA FDPIR Intake Manager Mrs. Patricia Salas and USDA FDPIR staff member Mr. Ronald Buckman for their ongoing efforts and hard work in keeping this program available to our community.
