The California Valley Miwok Tribe hosted a meeting with visitors Julio Guarita, Mayan Indian (Guatemala) and Writer / Professional Journalist, Ms. Lucy Goodison from England. This was the first time for Julio Guarita to visit the United States of America, and upon making their final plans, they wanted to meet a federally recognized American Indian Tribe. Since their airplane landed in San Francisco, and Ms. Goodison has friends that live in Oakland, the California Valley Miwok Tribe was the Tribe they reached out to.
It was a very pleasant and exciting meeting with much information being exchanged between the Tribe and our kind and courteous visitors. Tribal Elder Mildred Burley gifted one of her ‘personally made’ traditional Miwok Pine Needle baskets to Mr. Guarita, to take back home with him. Chairperson Silvia Burley explained the California Valley Miwok Tribe’s ‘Miwok’ heritage, culture and traditions; and gave a tour of the ‘Wall of Achievement’.
The California Valley Miwok Tribe would like to sincerely thank Writer / Professional Journalist Ms. Lucy Goodison, and Julio Guarita, Mayan Indian from Guatemala / England, for taking the time out of their vacation (to America) to learn about our Tribe.
