The California Valley Miwok Tribe held this month’s United States Department of Agriculture, (USDA) Food Distribution on Thursday, July 21st, 2022.
It was a pleasantly warm day with a slight breeze making for an easy distribution.
The distribution contained a vast array of goods that included but was not limited to canned and frozen meats, canned fruits, vegetables, beans, potato’s, milks,
boxed noodles, oats, raisins, breakfast wheats, condiments, butter, peanut butter, cheese’s, fruit juices and numerous other items.
The highlight of the distribution was the participation of one of the young new champions who currently has developed quite a following, but took the time to participate in helping needy families to receive the nutritious foods that they have come to depend on every month that this event is held.
His name is DuRon “Golyath” Buckman. His participation and commitment to excellence helped to propel his 14 year old youth’s Basketball team, aptly named, “The Dream Team” to the state championships of which they dominated all other competition to become the State Champions of California.
DuRon, or as the tribe like’s to call him Lil’ Curry Buckman was the leader in three point throws and one of the leading scorers on his team. Having known DuRon for years and with Steph Curry being his favorite NBA player the tribe has long seen this young man with associations to the Native American community thrive and excel, and for years have seen Lil’ Curry, move in such a flurry, that his opponents vision is always blurry.
We want to give a special thanks to him with assisting in our food distribution and for setting a good example for the youth of not only the Native American community but for all the youth of our state and those whom participate in youth athletics’.
At this time we would also like to thank all those listed below for their assistance, support and empowerment in allowing us to be able to provide assistance through various programs to the Native American community within our service area.
